SERENA BELSBY: WRITER & PRODUCER
Serena
was born in Spokane, Washington and raised in Southern California. She
spent every summer until the age of sixteen working on her family’s
ranch. She drove wheat trucks, herded cattle, moved irrigation pipe,
and her personal favorite – lined hay bales. Those childhood summers
had a profound effect on her and she always knew that she would one day
document them. “Nothing Like a Redneck Christmas” is a tribute to her family and the colorful characters in the region.
Serena earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Texas and an MBA from Texas
Christian University. While in college she started a successful jewelry
importing business before tackling the Antique business and becoming a
mortgage broker. Serena’s first writing endeavor was a one-woman show
that she herself performed in Los Angeles, directed by the illustrious
Penny Allen. From there she ventured onto screenplays. Her first, “A
Second Chance” won grand prize/first place in the Hartley-Merrill International Screenwriting Competition presented at the Cannes Film Festival. Serena is proud to be an alumni of the prestigious Sundance Writer’s Lab. She has also attended its European counterpart, the Plume et Pellicule writers’ workshop sponsored
by Dreamago in Sierre, Switzerland. She currently has several film and
television projects in various stages of development.
