Why "Nothing Like a Redneck Christmas?"
Why
does Christmas make us so wacky? What is it about this holiday that
brings us so much joy and yet so much pain? Why do the same fights
happen over and over? Why do our families drive us crazy? Why do we
stress out? Have you ever witnessed a war/zone free Christmas? What is
a redneck? How do you spot a redneck? Are rednecks special?
"Nothing Like a Redneck Christmas" unravels on my family’s ranch near Spokane, Washington, where I am
currently living. My kin has been in the area for over one hundred
years and the buffalo even longer. Ranch life is a world I know well
but for many it must seem like a trip to Mars. Tell me, how many people
do you know in New York City that can get cud from a cow? Herd buffalo?
Drive a combine?
"Nothing Like a Redneck Christmas" is
similar in tone to "Junebug" and "The Squid and the Whale" but with an
extra dash of Redneck flair in the vein of the Coen Brothers' a la
"Raising Arizona" and "Fargo". The extras are local rednecks that I
personally know which will give it a vibrant authenticity.
One
of the main characters is Cuban, thus appealing to a wider audience.
Why a Cuban? Because, I grew up surrounded by Latinos in Southern
California and even speak Spanglish.
Have you ever herded
buffalo on a snowmobile? Gone bow and arrow hunting? Played whist? If
not, climb aboard, take a peak, and venture into the quirky world of "Nothing Like a Redneck Christmas."
